If a vintage motorcycle helmet is your "thing," there are plenty of types of helmets available, and numerous of them are collectible. And, most of them look without doubt stunning, as well! From the basic, small leather hats that bikers referred to as helmets back near the turn of the century when motorcycles really commenced to catch on with the motoring community to the classic and DOT-approved Bell Star helmets made during 1980's and beyond, there may be literally a motorcycle helmet for everyone, if you imagine that a vintage motorcycle helmet is a stylish thing to collect.
When I was crusing a motorcycle almost thirty years ago, I had a full-face Bell Star Helmet - a white one. I'm not sure if that helmet is a real collectible these days, but some of those open-faced Bell helmets are generating quite a commotion when they pop up for sale. And the real untouched examples seem to sell rather well, too. Then there are the the old Shoei open face helmets that often seem to get snapped up in short order, especially when in NOS (New Old Stock) condition. And, it seems that very nearly anything that has a "flake" paint job - gold with bright red seem fashionable - sell fast and for plenty of cash. Face it, a brightly-colored retro motorcycle helmet looks great.
You should remember that a vintage motorcycle helmet is not to be used presently to protect your own brain - those old materials deteriorate rapidly and the old motorcycle helmets were by no means as safe as the ones of today (even when brand-spanking new), thanks to modern know-how, design and manufacturing techniques. That said, there are literally thousands of vintage helmets that can be considered , and a numberf of them are incredibly cheap to buy - go ahead and look at them for yourself!
